Regulating and Operating Displays
- LCD Display: Large alpha/numeric display on the Control Panel reports
(in words) all regulating, controlling and self-prompting functions of the unit.
- Self-Prompting: Because the unit is designed to be
"user-friendly," all regulation and control functions are self-prompting with
necessary commands shown on the LCD display.
- Ready Light: This green light appears when full power has been turned
on and the unit is ready to detect. The light will also indicate when an individual
inspection has been completed by the unit and it is ready to accept the next person
- Alarm Light: This red light appears when the unit detects a target
amount of metal on an individual, according to specifications of the Program and
Sensitivity levels. This light will appear even when sound volume has been turned off.
Bar Graph: This LED display indicates the detection intensity which is
based on the amount and composition of metallic objects passing through the unit.
Eight Touchpads on the Control Panel below the LCD display on the archway
perform all control functions.
- Standby: When this touchpad is pressed, the unit goes into a low power
mode, ready to be returned to full operation instantly when the OPERATE pad is touched.
- Operate: When this touchpad is pressed, full detection power of the
unit is turned on. It also initiates an automatic and comprehensive self-test and
diagnostic program for instant fault detection. Touching this pad at any time activates
the testing procedure. If faults are found, they will be immediately reported on the LCD
display.
- Counter: When this touchpad is pressed, the current traffic count for
the unit is shown on the LCD display. Pressing and holding this touchpad for ten (10)
seconds causes the counter to return to zero (0).
- Volume: When this touchpad is pressed, the volume level of the unit s
audio alarm will be displayed on the LCD display. By using the + and touchpads, operators
can raise or lower the volume.+and: These touchpads will be used to increase or decrease
various numerical settings and for certain On/Off functions.
- Program: When this touchpad is pressed, the settings for Program and
Sensitivity will appear on the LCD display.
All of the above touchpad functions are available to operators of the detector
Access: This touchpad will be used only by supervisory management
personnel. It permits changing the Program and Sensitivity codes and also is used to
control such functions as synchronisation of multiple units, pulse frequency and tone. The
unit further protects security of control settings by maintaining a non-resettable
sequence code that indicates any attempt at seeking access to the settings. A tamper alarm
sounds within 10 seconds after the Access touchpad is pressed unless proper access code is
entered.
Technical Specifications
- Electronics: Digital-controlled pulse induction metal detector with
microprocessors utilised in both detection and control circuitry. Designed for tailoring
specific programs to fulfil various security applications. Electronics are modular and
designed for easy plug-in and change.
- Program levels: Ultimate versatility, 20 standard programs. Designed
for tailoring specific programs to fulfil various security applications.
- Self diagnostic: Whenever unit is turned on, self-test of all systems
is performed automatically with any failures or problems reported on the LCD display.
- Ankle boost: Multiple coil design provides three intensity levels of
ankle-boost sensitivity to insure uniformity of screening in all security applications.
- Sensitivity:1-200 per program for precise target selection.
- Memory: All program selections and settings are maintained in
electrically erasable non-volatile memory. The unit will maintain all settings even when
disconnected from power. No battery is required for memory retention.
- Overhead control unit: LCD Display, LED bar graph and control touchpad
plus all wiring, connections and electronics are integrated in a single overhead
compartment; eliminates exposed wires and external control box.
- Control outputs: Solid state switches (low voltage AC or DC) for
operating external alarms and control devices.
- Indicators: Ready light indicates unit is operational; Alarm light and
audible alarm are activated when target amount of metal is detected; LED bar graph
indicates amplitude of alarm signal.
- Traffic counter: Built-in and resettable with current reading easily
available on LCD panel.
- Tamperproof: Dual-level access codes required to set or change all
sensitivity settings and detection programs; one level for use by supervisors in selecting
programs and sensitivity and the other for initial set-up and overall control;
non-resettable sequence code logs all changes made whenever sensitivity codes are
accessed. Audible alarm reports any unauthorised attempt at access.
- Construction: Attractive scratch- and mar resistant laminate with
resilient end caps; control panel and cross pieces of heavy duty aluminium.
- Regulatory information: Meets or exceeds detection requirements of the
National Institute of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Standards #0601.00, levels 1-5,
and Federal Aviation Administration airport application specifications. Programs have been
designed specifically to meet the three-gun test of the FAA and requirements of the
Undetectable Firearm Act of 1991.
- Also complies with IEC standards for Safety requirements for Electronic Measuring
Apparatus and meets the Federal Communications Commission Class B standards for noise
emission from commercial electrical equipment.
- Public Safety: The peak magnetic field strength of less than one Gauss
will not affect magnetic recording media, including magnetic tape, diskette and cards.
Unit has been tested in accordance to and meets the electromagnetic safety requirements
of:
- -Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers: A Standard of Safety Levels with
Respect to Human Exposure in Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields, 3 kHz to 300
GHz" IEEE C95.1 -1991 section 4.12.
- -Occupational and Safety Health Administration: Radiation Protection Guide, CFR 1910.97
section (2)i.
- -National Institute of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice: Standards for Walk-Through
Metal Detectors for use in Weapons Detection, NILECJ-STD-0601 .00 section 4.11.
- -Canada Health and Welfare Performance Standards (Walk Through), RPB-SC-18 8 section
3.2.2 which addresses the issue of electromagnetic effects to cardiac pacemakers.
- Infrared sensor: Improves analysis of detection signal; increases
throughput; helps eliminate "false alarms," also provides accurate traffic
counter.
- Interference rejection: 100% sensor coil Faraday shielding; special
Garrett built-in circuitry for noise suppression and ignoring x-ray monitor horizontal
sync.
- Masking: Microprocessor programming designed to eliminate the problem
of detection signals from two or more targets cancelling each other.Synchronisation:
Multiple frequencies permit several Magnascanners to operate simultaneously in close
proximity.
- Electrical: Fully automatic 85 to 265 VAC, 50 or 60 Hertz, 5 watts; no
rewiring, switching or adjustments required. Power supply meets UL, CSA, TUV, and VDE
